Buffalo Sabres vs Boston Bruins Game Recap 3/27/21 … 17 straight

The Sabres got a boost in their lineup today when starting goalie Linus Ullmark was reactivated off IR and made his return to the crease.

Unfortunately for Ullmark, the team in front of him still couldn’t get the job done. Despite having a one-goal lead twice in the game, the Sabres couldn’t hold off the Bruins and lost 3-2 in regulation. They have now gone 17 consecutive games without a win.

Recap

1-0 BUF – Reinhart

1-1 BOS – Grzelcyk

2-1 BUF – Okposo

2-2 BOS – Ritchie

3-2 BOS – Smith

News and Notes

Ullmark’s return

The Sabres are a noticeably different team in front of Ullmark, you can almost see their confidence increase because they know that their goalie will be able to make some key saves for them throughout the game.

The Bruins outchanced the Sabres 24-18 (all situations) and outshot them 36-27. Ullmark stopped 33 shots including all seven shots he faced while the Bruins were on the powerplay. Despite giving up three goals, it was impossible not to notice what a drastic improvement Ullmark is over the other goalie options.

Sabres Powerplay finally comes through

When Sam Reinhart scored in the first period it marked the first time the Sabres scored a powerplay goal since February 25th.

The Sabres powerplay was once the only reliable thing the team had and since Eichel’s injury it all but disappeared. Hopefully Reinhart’s goal will spark something and at least give the Sabres some form of offensive output going forward.

Quick Hits

  • Dylan Cozens remained on the wing today, the team should really consider moving him back to center because that’s what he was drafted as and there’s no center depth on this ream with Eichel hurt and Staal traded.
  • Hall had another injury scare, the Sabres cannot afford to lose him because right now he’s their most valuable trade chip heading into the deadline.
  • Buffalo has gone 17 straight games without a win, the record for longest winless streak is 30 by the Winnipeg Jets…. It’s not impossible to see this Sabres team matching that at this point,

The Road Ahead

The Sabres take on the Flyers on Monday… the team knows changes are coming so maybe this team will look a little different when they drop the puck next. Other than that there’s not a whole lot to preview for this team going forward.
