Sabres Game #23 Recap – Florida Panthers 11/24/2019

Final Score – 5-2 BUF

Arrow Up – Secondary Scoring

The Sabres scored five even strength goals in this game and Jack Eichel only picked up 1 of those goals.

Buffalo had four different scorers score five goals, including Zemgus Girgensons (2), Jack Eichel, Victor Olofsson and Jeff Skinner.

For the last little while Jack Eichel had been the only consistent goal scorer, tonight was a very encouraging sign to see the Sabres get offence from different players (even if Eichel assisted on two of the other four goals).

Arrow Up – Linus Ullmark

After two rocky starts in a row, Ullmark was awarded his third consecutive start and didn’t disappoint.

The Sabres goalie stopped 43/45 shots that the Panthers threw at him, and was a stabling force when the Panthers took over the game at times.

It’s been needed, but the Sabres goaltending finally kept them in a game, and helped secure a much needed win for the club.

Arrow Down – Powerplay

The Sabres powerplay didn’t convert tonight, but that’s not why they’re in the arrow down.

Their first powerplay was abysmal, failing to gain the Panthers’ zone and giving up multiple short-handed chances including a breakaway to Sceviour.

Krueger told WGR that solving the powerplay will have a significant impact on the team’s success…well they better keep working because it has a bunch of apparent issues.

Quick Hits

-Zach Bogosian made his season debut and picked up an assist on Jack Eichel’s goal, the defenceman had been sidelined for 8 months

-Evan Rodrigues left the game early in the first and did not return, with a game tomorrow the Sabres will likely dress Lazar unless a call-up or other move happens

Looking ahead

The Sabres head to Tampa Bay to play the Lightning for the first time on North American soil this season. Buffalo will need a strong effort to earn some points against one of the leagues most potent offences, Hutton will likely start in net for the Sabres.
