The draft pick is a 2019 4th that can become a 3rd round pick.

Sheary has two years left on his contract that pays him $3 Million per year, and he will likely step in as a top-6 winger for the Sabres unless another move is made.

Last season playing with the Penguins Sheary scored 18 goals and added 12 assists for a total of 30 points.

Jason Botterill obviously knows Sheary from his days with PIttsburgh, and given the fact that Sheary plays with Crosby Botterill likes his ability to play up and down the lineup.

Sheary also provides much needed depth at the wing, something the Sabres have been lacking. At best Sheary plays with Eichel, at worst he is a great winger to have on a third-line anchored by Casey Mittelstadt.

As for Hunwick, he is a throw in for the Penguins. He will likely be the 7th defenceman for the Sabres and shouldn’t see much ice time next season.

With loads of cap space taking on his contract to acquire a player like Sheary is a no brainer. Botterill made a very good move here, and he is setting himself up nicely for big changes to the Sabres’ roster.
