Buffalo Sabres prospect Will Borgen has decided to forgo his senior season at St. Cloud State and sign with the Buffalo Sabres.

Borgen will reportedly go to Rochester tomorrow and help them gear up for their Calder Cup run.
He signed his ATO with an ELC kicking in at the start of the 2018-19 season, something that Sabres were probably pushing very hard for, and what is reported as the desire for other college prospect Casey Mittelstadt.
The right shot defenseman is a huge signing for Botterill, Borgen quickly becomes one of Buffalo’s top prospects in the organization.
He is a solid two-way defenseman with NHL potential, he can move the puck, chip in offensively and punish the other team physically.
In 106 games at St. Clout State Borgen scored 41 points, he brings a solid presence to the Amerks blueline while they await the arrivals of Guhle and Nelson for their playoff run.
Borgen should be able to push for a spot on the Sabres blueline next season.
Also, according to reports Borgen’s teammate and the Sabres 7th round pick in 2012 Judd Peterson is also signing with the Amerks.
Both pieces are good gets for Rochester as they gear up to make a deep playoff run.
As stated earlier these are good signings for the Sabres, Peterson is more of a depth piece for the Amerks but Borgen was a must sign for Botterill.
Borgen is a right shot defenseman who can move the puck while being responsible in his own end.
I think Borgen plays out to be a bottom pairing guy with the potential to play on the second pair if needed.
He does a lot of things right, and adds a solid defensive prospect to the Sabres organization (something desperately needed).
Bogen immediately becomes the second best defensive prospect the Sabres have aside from Guhle and I really believe that he can push for a roster spot next season given the Sabres glaring need for defense.
Also Borgen signing with Buffalo may calm down the whole “college players won’t sign here” narrative.
