After back to back losses in must win games against the Boston Bruins the Sabres faced one of the best teams in the NHL Tuesday night looking to turn it around after losing 6 of their last 7 games.
They got off to a very good start, it took New York nearly 10 minutes to register their first shot of the game.
Carrier was battling in front of the net and got the puck to Zemgus Girgensons and he backhanded past Lundqvist to give Buffalo a 1-0 lead.
The Sabres caught New York on a bad line change and Sam Reinhart got the puck on net and Lundqvist kicked out the rebound to Evander Kane who tapped in his 9th of the season. Kane has 9 goals in his last 14 games.
For the second time in 3 games, the Sabres have gotten a 2-0 lead after the first period. This time they did not choke and Justin Bailey scored a great goal to make it a 3-0 game. This was Bailey’s first career NHL goal as well as his first NHL point in his 12th career NHL game.
The Sabres continued their trend of sitting on leads for the rest of the second period. They had only 4 shots and the Rangers had 15. Nick Holden beat Anders Nilsson to cut the lead to 3-1 late in the 2nd period.
Derek Grant absolutely flattened Jimmy Vesey!
Just 18 seconds into the 3rd period William Carrier drew a hooking penalty which sent Jimmy Vesey to the box. Sam Reinhart had a very nice pass to Jack Eichel who just tapped in his 7th goal of the season.
Anders Nilsson was not tested much in this game but he had a very good performance and he made a few big saves.
The Sabres will face Chicago tomorrow night.
